WGIPOA Meeting 7/22/17

NOTE:  Our meetings are usually the 3rd Saturday of the month but this one will be the fourth Saturday or July 22, at the Galveston Country Club, 14228 Stewart Road, starting at 8:30 AM for breakfast burritos and the meeting starting at 9:00 AM.

MINUTES:  The minutes of the last WGIPOA meeting, a special Board Meeting, of June 17 are on our website.

PROGRAM:  We are pleased again to have the Galveston Park Board of Trustees present their new beach cleaning program for West Galveston Island.  From the Parks Board, Chair Joyce Calver McLean, Executive Director Kelly DeShaun, and Director of Operations, Reuben Trevino, will make presentations.

This is a must attend meeting for beach side property owner associations who have their beach cleaned.  There are new requirements and new costs.  The Parks Board will authorize beach cleaning contractors to use their U.S. Army Corp permit to clean seaward of the mean high tide line or 3-foot contour, which will be discussed and shown.  The Parks Board will charge the contractor 42 cents per linear feet of a subdivisions beach.  The contractor will also be charged a license fee.  These costs plus the contractor’s fee will be charged to the property owner association.  In addition, the property owner association will need a permit from the City at a cost of $500 for the contractor to clean north of the mean high tide line to the line of vegetation.  A more detailed explanation by the Park Board will be sent to each property owner association before the meeting.

The Parks Board will also give an update on their various programs and the increase in tourists to the island.  6.5 million visitors came to Galveston Island last year and it looks like more will be coming this year.  The Parks Board are doing fantastic programs and events and please come and hear.
