WGIPOA/Jamaica Beach Joint Meeting 6/18/16

MINUTES:  The minutes of the last WGIPOA meeting on May 21, 2016, is on our website, www.wgipoa.com.

MEETING:  The next meeting will be on Saturday June 18, 2016, at the City of Jamaica Beach Public Service Building, 16628 San Luis Pass Road, with booths opening up at 9:45 AM and the meeting starting at 10:00 AM.

PROGRAM:  This is our annual joint town meeting with the City of Jamaica Beach on Hurricane Planning/Evacuation/Recovery.  Please see the attached agenda and you will see why this is a very important meeting to attend for the west end.  June 1 begins the start of hurricane season and we already have three named storms, “Alex” in January,  “Bonnie” in May, and just recently “Colin”!  It will be eight years in September since “Ike” and hopefully we will  be spared this year from a storm.  However, we cannot rest on our laurels and we must be prepared and the reason for you to attend this meeting in Jamaica Beach.     We have great topics and speakers in preparing and recovering from a storm event.  We have booths to visit before and after the meeting and we will have food and soft drinks following the meeting.

Please see the attached agenda with outstanding speakers on what to do before the storm arrives, the process in getting back on the island, and what the city and GLO do after the storm.

Galveston Beach Band Concerts:  This is Americana at its best! Free concerts every Tuesday beginning June 7 at the Sealy Gazebo, 24th and Sealy Avenue.  The City of Galveston has sponsored these concerts since 1928 and conductor Frank Incaprera returns for his 54th season to lead 23 musicians and a singer in these free 90 minute performances.
