WGIPOA Meeting 9/19/15

MINUTES:  The minutes of the last WGIPOA meeting on August 15, 2015, will be on our website in a few days at www.wgipoa.com.

MEETING:  The next meeting will be September 19 at the Galveston Country Club, 14228 Stewart Road, with breakfast burritos starting at8:30 AM and the meeting starting at 9:00 AM

PROGRAM:  The West Galveston Island Property Owners Association is pleased to have Alan Prost, TAMUG Waterfront Director, talk about the new ship R/V Trident, a $2.5 million research vessel just delivered to the TAMUG campus.  This state of the art custom vessel will support research, academic and training needs of the growing Galveston campus.  The “Trident” will support a wide range of underwater exploration, including diving, subsea geology coring and a host of others.  It has a capacity for 44 passengers within 20 miles of shore and eight scientists out to the 200 miles from shore.  Come hear about the newest addition to the TAMUG campus.

Please bring your family, friends, and neighbors to this very important meeting for the west end and enjoy great breakfast burritos.

Robert Webster:  I report with sadness the passing of Captain Robert Webster who has done so much for the Texas Coast, especially Galveston.  Robert developed the SEAS (Sargassum Early Advisory System) program in detecting the Sargassum sea routes and how they will impact the Island.  The system he developed through TAMUG is now used throughout the Caribbean.  We express our deepest sympathy to Captain Webster’s wife and family.  Please see excellent articles about Captain Webster in the GalvestonWestender Newsletter:
