As I mentioned in my email Saturday, the WGIPOA Board of Directors decided to cancel the meeting planned that morning due to the request by the City for a voluntary evacuation of the west end at 10:00 AM as a result of the tropical storm Beta possibly impacting the area.

When Mayor ProTem Dr. Craig Brown announced at the beginning of our “Zoom” Mayoral and District 6 candidate forum this morning for the voluntary evacuation of the west end of Galveston Island at 10:00 AM due to the threat of high tides and floods from Tropical Storm Beta, the Board of Directors decided to cancel the meeting for the safety of our west end residents.  The meeting is postponed until Saturday, September 26 at 9:00 AM.

It will be the same format including the “Zoom” entry so mark your calendar and please join us for a great meeting. Please find the Zoom meeting info via this link.  I will be sending out the same agenda later next week.  Be safe!

WGIPOA Meeting 5/30/20 Notes

The “Webex” webinar meeting we had this past Saturday with 96 to 104 people participating was a huge success.  The presenters, Sharon Tirpak, Deputy Chief Project Management Branch of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Galveston District, and Tony Williams, Director of Planning Coastal Resources, of the Texas General Land Office,  were excellent.  The presentations were 90 minutes and there were a lot of good questions and a pdf of the presentation is attached.  It was not recorded.

In addition, Sharon  advised the U.S. Army Corp, Galveston District, has a website that has a lot of info and fact sheets.

Coastal TX Protection & Restoration Feasibility Study Handout

She said to check the website and the study Facebook page and the Galveston District Facebook page for upcoming events.

Meeting 5/30/20

Attention:  Members and Friends of the West Galveston Island Property Owners Association

As I mentioned in my recent email, for the safety of our members and friends, due to the COVID-19 coronavirus situation, the West Galveston Island Property Owners Association monthly meetings had been suspended.  However, modern technology now allows virtual meetings  and an s/b video conferencing platform called “Webex” will allow us to have a meeting.  Therefore, the meeting we had scheduled for this Saturday, May 30, will proceed with an update of the “Ike Dike”.  For the west end, this is a must see and hear about the project and you will be blown away with the surge protection system that is planned in Bolivar Roads (between the Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island).
